The Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah) selected CRS Engineers to evaluate and pioneer Utah’s first, certified Mega Site program. Our team of site development engineers collaborated with EDCUtah to provide early-stage consulting and oversight services for the program.

Mega Sites are large parcels of land—more than 400 acres—where all cost factors have been answered in advance, reducing the acquisition and development risk for potential buyers or developers.

The Mega Sites program will provide great economic opportunities for competitive participation in Utah communities with tracts of land, attracting billion-dollar scale industrial and multi-use projects.

As part of the program development, EDCUtah engaged a team of students at the University of Utah’s Masters of Real Estate Development (MRED) at the David Eccles School of Business to conduct a feasibility study. CRS and EDCUtah compiled a set of initial criteria to create the framework for the students to vet their proposal. Additional research included evaluating several states with similar successful Mega Site programs in their semester-long research study.

A Mega Site requires the following certification criteria: Geographic; Site ownership and availability; Site development; Utilities, and Transportation.

CRS Engineers is proud to serve as the Engineer of Record for the first Mega Site in the state of Utah. The first project is currently underway and serves as a “Beta Site” for vetting certification criteria and final evaluation processes.

This valuable program will promote the success of future Mega Sites across the state.
